Hanna

Getting To Know Them Better

Hanna is a supermodel of orangutans. She is tall and beautiful. She has a big personality and is very curious as to what is going on around her. Hanna is very smart and watches for moments when she can reach something outside her area, so her caregivers must always be mentally two steps ahead of her. She is active and busy most of the time and engages with many enrichment activities and toys. Hanna is excellent at solving food puzzles and likes to put on old hats, gloves, and socks for fun and enrichment. Hanna cannot get enough of being brushed and can often be seen flipping through magazines at her leisure.
She eats many foods but is also a picky eater. She doesn’t like to try new things, and no matter what she eats, she throws part of it away. She even spits out the skin of grapes! However, she does love tomatoes, cooked sweet potato, cooked leeks, green peppers, carrots, bananas, and kale.

Hanna was born in Miami and lived her first years at the tourist attractions Parrot Jungle and Jungle Island with her half-sisters Peanut and Pumpkin before they all three arrived at the Center for Great Apes in 2020. Hanna was hand-raised in Miami and never met her mother (Sunshine) who was in the entertainment industry. However, Sunshine was retired to the Center for permanent sanctuary care in 2017 (three years before Hanna arrived), so Hanna has finally seen her mother… as well as her baby sister Cahaya!

ADOPT AN APE

It costs over $25,000 a year to care for one of our apes. By symbolically adopting the ape of your choice for a one-time donation of $300 OR just $25 a month for one year, you are helping ensure the health, safety, and well-being of your orangutan or chimpanzee.

Can't Adopt?

In addition to cash donations, the Center for Great Apes is always in need of food, enrichment items, and supplies. We welcome gifts of all kinds.
