MEDIA RESOURCES: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Owen Teague and Center for Great Apes

The Disney movie “The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” opens on May 10, 2024. While all the apes in the movie are computer generated, they are based on the movement of actors like Tampa native Owen Teague. Owen prepared for the role at the Center for Great Apes in Wauchula, Florida, a sanctuary for chimpanzees and orangutans rescued from entertainment, biomedical research, and the exotic animal trade.  The sanctuary, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023, takes special recognition of this historical moment where the sanctuary served as an educational resource for the film. In addition to the actor Owen Teague studying the apes, vocal sounds of the orangutans were recorded at the sanctuary for the film.
